Resentments are hereditary

Riding the high
From my own demise
Adrenaline pumping
Like your fist as it
Pierces the air in triumph

I accept my own defeat
But your smug celebration
Is what ignites a rage
Growing in me like a seed
Planted by my mother,
Planted by her mother

It grows and flourishes with
Each resentment, threatening
To draw blood if I don’t keep
Pushing it down, down
To my bowels
