The Alabaster Sky

A Poem

Mighty, eternal winds blew that day,
much like the wings of Pegasus against an alabaster sky,
its flight squandered in effigy.

I sought shelter,
determined to steer clear
of the path of upheaval and destruction.

The winds took no mercy
on the slender saplings,
nor the ancient oaks,
that served as concierge
for droves of sparrows,
nesting and seeking luxurious asylum
in their shaded bordello.

Until the malevolent, vehement gusts
forced their early eviction,
in wild, flailing evacuation,
and in earnest, they took flight,
sparrows evaporating up towards the heavens.

The driving, sustained gales
continued their plunder,
sunflowers broken,
tree trunks toppled,
limbs severed,
shingles blown,
rooftops spiraling
from framed shanties and solitary sheds,
destinations unknown.

Nature’s fierceness
catapulting the gentle calm.
Unexplained, the brutal north winds abate,
and the peaceful southern zephyr waits,
as I assess, in solitude,
watching the pernicious, alabaster sky.
