little words
bearing scant meaning
still hurt.

thoughtless verses
that slip the mouth
clasp more meaning
to the listener than the preacher.

syllables,
like guns,
leaving scars that even time
can never heal,
yet assailants never jailed.

maybe,
it’s time to tell
those people
who think
not once before they speak
to
SHUT UP!
