Way Forward
We are all victims
in the arc of history
Victims of the tyranny
of an awful inheritance
Yet, we are also — the oppressor
under that same arc
Careless tyrants that savour
another awful inheritance
against another
“There is always — the other”
“There is — always the other”
The balance, O traveler
is in the recognition
of both truths
within ourselves —
The humility,
to accept our privilege, and
The strength,
to conquer our privation
So let justice be done
But please, not at the altar
of shallow ignorance
and vehemence, misguided
in the zero-sum logic
of the forming mind
or the jaded lies
of the powers that are
But instead,
at the wellspring of abundance
in humility sought, and
hardly fought
by the soldiers of life,
in naked truth
and in hard-won experience
