When this is over,
let’s get coffee, you and I
under the luminous lagoon of a blue sky
flitting by like a vagrant breeze
winding lost across a cobbled street
breathing in the muslin complacency of winter’s sunlight
the humdrum of accordions and spoke-wheeling children
encroach our space like words crowding into an argument
until we’re nothing
but birds dissipating
into the billowing calamity of cotton clouds
until we’re unraveled
from our candy-wrapper existence
licked into the corners of a foreign tongue
swooning to the rhythm of a slow-dragging sax-beat
while holding tight to the muzzles of a fading tune
The promise of a day lapping ahead of us
timelessly like a symphonic river
and just before we exit from the scene
our feet still grooving and spinning
I’ll lead you to an overwhelming
arch of reflections in the hall of mirrors
where in your eyes
perhaps I’d see a glowing retreat
to return to a place you call home
to a place to still your dreaming heels
Might we then curl folded on a green park bench
instantly falling asleep
Let’s get coffee, you and I
under the luminous lagoon of a blue sky.
