1. Visit National Gallery Singapore during the Children’s Biennale 2017

Themed “Dreams & Stories,” the first edition of Gallery Children’s Biennale invites the inner child in each of us to embark on a creative journey. Uncover the stories behind the 10 installations with your children this June Holidays! In conjunction with Gallery Children’s Biennale, a series of public programmes, film screenings, special tours for families, and artist-led workshops for children have also been lined up. Spanning four months, there is something for everyone to discover, whether young or young at heart!

*Free admission for Singaporeans*

2. Have a Mini Fashion Show

Have a pile of clothes to iron AND have to take care of your little ones? Fret not, as it’s time to play dress up and occupy your little energizers.

Parents, here’s what you can do:

  1. Grab a laptop and set it up. Use the inbuilt camera (such as Photobooth on Macbook) for a mini fashion photoshoot.
  2. Let your children have fun in the pile of clothes that needs to be ironed — play dress up, walk the runway, pose for the camera.
  3. Amidst the laughter, be that amazing multi-tasker you are and iron the clothes that aren’t used by your children.

What a fun way to occupy your young ones and get some chores done at the same time!

3. Junior MasterChef

Who says you need to be Gordan Ramsey to cook up an amazing meal? Kids can do it too! The children will have such a fun and fulfilling experience eating their own creations. You can even invite your child’s friends over and/ or have a cook off!

Here are some kid friendly recipes to try out:

Simple tortilla pizzas| Breakfast toast cups | Mini lasagna cups OR Mini pizza quiches | Banana Pancakes (Bonus: pancake animals) | Teriyaki Salmon (Bonus: Serve it with Mac n Cheese)

No bake snack bars | Jello popsicles | Nutella brownies | Peanut butter banana quesadillas

*Parent Bonus: You don’t have to cook for that particular meal! Score!*

4. Create Your Own Indoor ‘Ninja Warrior’ Course

If you have hyperactive children, this is the perfect activity for you! Brainstorm with your kids and come up with your very own obstacle course right in your home.

Here are some ideas you can incorporate:

Obstacle course 1 | Obstacle course 2 | Obstacle course 3 | Obstacle course 4 | String laser maze

*Choose obstacles based on your kid’s skill level and available items at home*

Be creative and maybe even try out the obstacle course with your kids.

5. Candy Scavenger Hunt

With a combination of adventure and sweets, this activity will be a riot with every child. You can have some friends over and make it into a candy party (scavenger hunt 101).

Or, you could turn this into a fun break during revision. School holiday doesn’t just mean fun and games, there’s still school homework, revision and preparing for upcoming exams. Why not use this candy scavenger hunt as a motivational break during study sessions? Parents can make a to do list chart and for every 30 minutes of study time, reward your child with a hunt for his or her favourite candy. The fun of hunting for candy will give them a good recharge as well!

Pro Parent Tip: Have a record of where you have hidden all the sweets so that you can retrieve it with ease (and remember to retrieve all of it, of course). This is to prevent random armies of ants — just that they weren’t random.

6. Balloon Ping Pong

Play balloon ping pong with paper plates as paddles.

For this fun indoor or outdoor game, you will need 2 very basic items:

  1. Balloons
  2. Paper/ plastic plates
  3. Craft sticks/ disposable chopsticks (optional)
  4. Markers/ pens/ pencils (optional)
  5. Tape (optional)

To inject more fun to this game, you can get the kids to design their paper plates with any materials available around the house. They can use markers to draw faces or even tape disposable chopsticks onto the back of the paper plates to create a sturdier paddle.

Pro Parent Tip: If you don’t have balloons lying around, visit a Daiso near you and get a pack of balloons for only $2.

7. Fun Brain Teasers

Brain teasers are definitely entertaining for kids who need an extra brain-charged challenge. In addition, they help to enhance children’s creative thinking and logic skills, similar to the lessons we conduct at Loshberry Code Studio.

Here are some activities for your kids to try out: riddles, optical illusions , puzzles and more!

8. Fun Home Science Experiments

Enrich your children with hands-on science experiments that can be done in the comfort of your home using simple things lying around the house. Follow up with explanations to ensure in-depth understanding of the science behind the cool observations.
