Now Is Not The Time To Stop Learning Programming

Tech Jobs Are Dead, Long Live Tech Jobs

So I’ve been seeing this idea that there are many layoffs at tech companies so you shouldn’t bother learning programming.

Now it’s very hard to predict the future, but I think that not learning programming just because of a few layoffs is a big mistake. And for a few reasons.

The Industry Is Cyclical

So how easy it is to get a job is very dependent on the current market conditions. So right now if you’re looking to get a tech job things don’t look good. Many companies have imposed hiring freezes and a massive oversupply of programmers have just been laid off.

So there may be a case to be made to stop applying to programming jobs right now. But stopping learning programming entirely? Not a good idea. Well, if you’re confident that you can learn everything there is to learn in programming in, I don’t know, a few weeks, sure then stop learning.
