The Dwarfism, see what are the health concerns for such a genetic variation.

The genetically mutated cats that have short legs are adorable and cute. They are commonly called “Munchkin Cats”.These cats are like usual cats when talking about their upper body structure but they have short legs. This is caused by mutations in their genes.

People love to keep these dwarf cats because they look like cute little kittens and are adorable sweet fellows. All the cats with dwarfism look like kittens but in reality, they are fully grown adult cats. This cuteness of these cats is making people crazy.

Cat owners all around the globe are breeding these cats and trying to reproduce more such genetically mutated organisms. These cats are not normal in any sense. They are cute and appealing to an owner's eyes but in reality, they are suffering a lot for their abnormality. They suffer many problems due to their short height and swollen little legs.

Arthritis:

There are many health issues related to this abnormality. Most of them are related to bones deformities and arthritis.

“As far as what we know, the inappropriate bone formation absolutely leads to abnormal loading, which predisposes them to osteoarthritis,”

~Dr. Carol Margolis, a veterinarian, and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine said this on an account.

Furthermore, cats with such leg structure can have spinal malformations, lordosis, and scoliosis. They can also have deformed ribs causing rib abnormalities and dispositioned skeletal framework.

Can’t jump :

It is a common observation that munchkin cats can’t jump. This is because of the abnormal deformities in the leg's structure. Many physicians believe that they might have pain while jumping or doing any exertion. Jumping or moving their legs more than the usual routine gives them shocks in joints. This is one of the reasons for munchkin cats being lazy and lethargic.

Can’t run fast :

These cats can’t run fast. They suffer “achondroplasia”, which is associated with enlarged heads as well as short legs. Munchkins have a combination of both of these traits hence result in a weaker body structure. They are not always slow but in most cases, they prefer not to be really quick.

In a nutshell, Munchkin cats are not normal little fellows, they are genetically mutated breeds. This article isn’t against these cute cats but just a humble try to make people aware of what pain such species might bear just for the amazement of human beings. Therefore, such cats should not be used for reproduction. They can be a harm to their offsprings.
