After a few weeks to reflect on our momentous, challenging, and impactful time in Louisville, our final blog post includes all the the final deliverables that we presented to both our host organization, Louisville Forward, and to all those that contributed to our project at a presentation at ChefSpace.

A quick reminder about our summer in the Civic Collaboration program: I came to Louisville without a choice of whom I was with, where I was going or what I was studying. When I found out about going to Louisville, I was very excited at the prospects of exploring a new city and understanding an extremely complex social issue. Without a clear pathway, though, it was also intimidating, and at some points during my short eight weeks there, I was met with discomfort at the ambiguous nature of the program. How was I, a rising sophomore college student, going to “solve” the food insecurity issues of these distressed neighborhoods? While it would be amazing if we did fix the problem in its entirety, what I ultimately learned was that we were there to make the next steps, and these moments of uncertainty quickly vanished with productive meetings and breakthroughs in our deliverables. Ultimately, my team and I ended up immersing ourselves in Louisville’s own cooperative ecosystem, and through that produced a report, presentation, maps and video materials to hopefully illuminate the next steps in the fight for food justice.

Without further ado, below are a variety of links, videos, and attachments that have culminated in our final deliverables from our time here, and feel free to check any or all of them out! Most importantly, is our Final Report titled:

For quick access, here is our informational video explaining what a food cooperative is and how one could exist in Louisville:

Next up is a link for exploration of our Food Asset Map, Russell Neighborhood: Through a Food Lens including tapestry segmentation layers, demographics tabs, transportation overlays, and a crowdsourcing map feature for the expansion of this project to other neighborhoods in Louisville: https://arcg.is/1GrCrr — A pic of this webapp is below:

Again, we are extremely grateful for our time spent in Louisville, and will hopefully be back sooner rather than later! We look forward to keeping up with everyone, and we are excited to see the future food system in the city.

Sincerely,

The Louisville Collaborative Team
