The Film-List (03/06/20)

There are so many movies and so little time. You can’t decide if you should go out to the theater or stay home and stream a movie. That’s why we’re here! At Lousywith. we’re going to be your movie Yoda!. Each Friday we’ll be dropping a new list of movies we’re clamoring to see that are worth the watch!

ONWARD

This weekend I’ll be grabbing a large popcorn and soda for this one. Onward is the first Pixar movie of 2020 and I couldn’t be more excited. Fantasy, comedy, a pair of legs, and two brothers on an epic quest — yes sir; can I have some more?! I’ve heard some early reviews and everyone was quite surprised by how much they enjoyed it. Tom Holland and Chris Pratt co-star as the two leads, alongside a killer cast that includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. I’m excited to see how this ridiculous amount of awesomeness turns out! I think it’s a great choice if you’re trying to catch a movie with the kiddos. I will be watching it like Han (you thought I was going to say Solo, but really I was going to say without Ben) . . . so yeah I guess technically Solo, but don’t have to worry about a lightsaber going through me!

The Way Back

Anyone who knows me can tell you I love a good sports movie. Coach Carter, Remember the Titans, Glory Road, A League of Their Own (not Rudy though; don’t @ me bro) — and so on. The Way Back is everything I could ever ask or want from want out of a basketball movie. I mean, we get to see an old high-school baller return to his home town. The team sucks and he’s the only one who can help. Ben Affleck’s character might also have a drinking problem (hmm…). You know; the same-old-same-old. In all seriousness, though, this movie looks amazing. I’m a huge fan of Ben Affleck and it appears The Way Back really hits a personal note for him. I know tomorrow I’ll be grabbing a ticket and an ‘Austin East Side Cider’ to go with it. Question: is it in poor taste to drink during a movie when the character has a drinking problem? Nah, I didn’t think so.

To All The Boys P.S. I Still Love You

Here’s a Netflix film for you and yes — I’m honestly stoked to watch this film this weekend. The original To All The Boys I Loved Before caught me off guard. It reminded me of the John Hughes movies I’d watch growing up (yes I’m a 90’s kid but damn do I love those movies!) I mean we get the quirky girl, the cool hunk (yes, Noah Centineo is a dreamboat) and the best friend caught in a love triangle. I mean if this isn’t the new generation’s Sixteen Candles then I don’t know what I’m doing here. If you’re looking for a cute movie to curl up on the couch with and drink your Yakult — then this is the movie for you. I’ll be watching it, but no Yakult for me; I doubt I could find it anywhere near me. Damn you Texas!!!!!

JoJo Rabbit

Of all the films to receive Academy Award nominations in 2019, JoJo Rabbit excites me the most! A boy in Hitler’s army comes home to discover that his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their family home. What makes the story even more intriguing is the fact that this film is a comedy! How can you possibly satirize or make light of the greatest atrocity in human history, and then receive an Academy Award for doing so? I simply have to know! With a star-studded and hilarious cast consisting of Sam Rockwell, Stephen Merchant, and Rebel Wilson, it’s easy to see that JoJo Rabbit will be packed with laughs (oh yeah — and ScarJo is in it too, I think). What most intrigues me, aside from the humor, is to see is how director Taika Waititi goes about communicating the historical elements of the film in an intelligent and sensitive way.
