Was Jesus Straight, Gay, or Bisexual?
There is a simple answer to this question.
Most Christians believe that we all come here with a set sexual orientation which is heterosexual. But there are others, primarily in the LGBTQ+ Community, that say they were born the way they are. Leading us to believe everyone is not automatically born heterosexual. So, who’s right? Both are saying they came here a certain way but both views still oppose one another.
What if neither view were right? What if the Bible doesn’t support either of those views? What if the Bible just commands us to Love and to be Love? Well, thankfully that’s exactly what the Bible and Jesus says Himself.
“God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” 1 John 4:16
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” Matthew 22:37–39
Our society gets so hung up on putting people in categories and giving them labels, and I believe that’s to help the rest of the world to understand. But now labels have gotten so far out of hand to where most are just confused. And when it comes to things like sexual orientation most don’t know what label they fall under, and some just choose not to have a label, which makes others confused as well.
The Bible doesn’t say that God made everyone heterosexual, nor does it say He made some gay, lesbian, bi, queer, pan, etc. The Bible keeps it simple and says Agapao. God wants us to unconditionally love Him and one another!
The story of Adam and Eve does not show God wants us to strictly fall in love with the opposite sex. The story is giving us our origin and how the world ended up like it is presently. If God wanted us to strictly fall in love with someone of the opposite sex, because to fall in love with the same sex is so detestable and disgusting to Him and a disgrace to His design for mankind, He would have written it in His Word for us to know. God had no problem saying other things He doesn’t like such as divorce and neglecting the poor, etc. So, He would have had no problem telling His children whom He loves so much that He died for, that He hates same-sex relationships. As bad as some Christians make out homosexuality to be, Jesus, being God, at some point should have addressed this abomination, yet, He did not.
Same-sex unions are a minority. It is highly unlikely that they will become more dominant than opposite-sex unions. Things that aren’t common look strange and wrong to us, and we try to correct it by making it look like the majority. But what we fail to realize, it was never designed to be with the majority that’s why it’s different. But we think that we can fix it to look like it is the majority, but it wasn’t broken. It worked just fine. But from the outside looking in it looks wrong. Everyone’s home is not designed and organized like our own. Does that make their house disorganized and messy? No. That makes it their house that is designed and functions like they need it to. Same-sex couples don’t need to be fixed, they need to be accepted and unconditionally loved.
The Bible doesn’t say whether we were born straight, gay, or bi. The Bible doesn’t say a lot of things that we are experiencing today. Christianity should not be treated like a religion because it is a relationship. The Bible is designed to lead us into deeper relationship with Him, not to treat God like a religion. God knows exactly how He made us and when it seems like we can’t find the answer in His Word it is then we need to go directly to Him. God wants intimacy through relationship with His people. He wants to be connected to His children. The Bible is guidance and understanding, but when we connect with the true author, the one that understands every word written, every story told, we then allow God to fill in the gaps. To fill in the areas of life we cannot comprehend nor fill with our own knowledge.
“‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD” Isaiah 55:8
Love is too big for us to understand. It’s too big for us to box in and restrict. It’s too big for us to ignore and leave unacknowledged. God is love. We will never fully understand God, but He reveals more of Himself in His own timing and way. We cannot confine Him. Who knows where God ends and begins? We cannot ignore Him. At some point and time in an individual’s life they will have to acknowledge God or acknowledge the mysteries of His wondrous creations.
