Do you follow these rules?

Working from home can seem like a dream come true. You can set your schedule, take a break when you want to, and deal with urgent, non-work-related issues whenever you need to.

However, working from home can also be difficult. You may be distracted from your work by housework, TV or 101 other things. You may also miss the company of colleagues in an office and start to feel isolated.

I was so happy to begin working from home in 2005 but I didn’t find it as easy as I thought. Over the years, I have developed certain habits and routines that have helped. Now I can truly say I love working from home!

DO set your alarm, get up at the usual time, shower, dress and have breakfast before starting work. This will put you in a positive frame of mind, and you’ll feel confident and professional. You don’t have to wear a business suit — just comfortable clothing that feels good to wear.

DON’T work in your pjs until lunchtime or later! This won’t put you in the best frame of mind for working — believe me, I’ve tried it!

DO set your own working hours and keep to them as far as possible. These don’t have to be 9 am to 5 pm, they could be 6 am to 1 pm, if you like to get up early, or 10 am until 6 pm if you find it hard to get going in…
