Doubting His love?

So Jesus really did say that we should not be anxious about anything yet I find myself worrying about money sometimes. Especially when I’ve just paid some bills and there’s not much left and I know more bills are coming the following week but the money that’s left won’t be enough to cover those bills.

It’s easier when you are single, you just kind of ride it out right? But when you are married and have children, what do you do? They have to eat, clothe and need a roof over their heads. Your anxiety is real and harder to ignore. You say to yourself “God supplies all my need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus”. You repeat it a couple of times and go to bed confident that all is well. You probably think when you wake up,maybe some money would have miraculously been paid into your account or some unexpected check would come in the mail.

Then you wake up, nothing has changed. The need hasn’t gone away. You are now super anxious because you actually don’t know what to do. Kind of like a helpless feeling.

But here’s the thing. It’s all a big lie.

You can never be helpless or hopeless. In fact, God is a very present help in the time of need.

Every time I try to remember a time in the past when I was in a similar situation, I realize something has always happened, God always comes through. But anxiety lets us forget that he really does always provide for our needs and we need not worry even if our situation doesn’t look like what we want yet (key word ‘yet’). God is delighted when we believe and rejoice in his goodness even before our expectation has manifested. It is the evidence that we trust Him. And we should.

I think why God is so big on us trusting him when we haven’t yet seen what we expect is that it shows that we believe in his love for us. Doubt is mostly centred around our perception about his love rather than about his power. I’ll explain.

We know he is powerful and can do all things, I mean even demons tremble, everyone knows God is powerful. Now the problem is that we don’t fully believe that he is willing to do what we ask. And if we take time to dissect that further, it means we don’t fully believe he loves us as much as we want him to. We are not fully persuaded of his love.

I mean, if God is your father and he can do all things, he would give you what you need right? It’s the natural parental instinct. So logically if we doubt that he would do something for us it means we doubt his love and commitment to us.

Trust in His Love.

Yeah, yeah I know you’ve probably been a christian for a while and all that and probably never saw yourself as someone who doubts God’s love. But that’s the plain truth. If we don’t trust that God will provide for all our needs and stop all the worries and anxiety, it means we doubt that he loves us and he really doesn’t like that. Besides, he doesn’t deserve our mistrust cause he’s done so much for us. God’s record with us makes him deserve our full trust even in the face of trouble. He is always faithful. He will never leave you helpless nor forsake you in your time of need and look he knows we need these things anyway.

I don’t ever want to doubt His love for me again so right now I choose not to worry about any need regardless of how helpless it seems cause it’s all a lie. God loves me, sent His son to die for me so how much more will He give me things that I need.

Now go and have yourself a worry free day :)
