I want an app that lets me meet people based on the music style that I like. However why limit Happn to simply listing songs to your profile and sharing songs to matches? I want an app that can match like minds, taste and physiological attraction to music discovery in real time. Happn is more like Happned as hardly any of those connections actually happen in real time. Potential matches are past encounters. But what if those passive background users could be activated as they are near without being creepy? Music is a great way to send that notification ‘Hey, you just crossed paths with someone who likes Electronic music. Listen to their tunes.’ Perhaps the profile is shown if further than 250m away, perhaps it is not when in close proximity.
True magic come about when those algorithms tap into the cultural differences between hip hoppers and jazz musicians, indie lovers and classical ears. There are many overlaps, but we will see a density of people with different tastes in various physical areas. Thus, I also want an app that shows the concentrations of those styles in each area to indicate the best spots to meet people that are interested in specific music genres. Happn already uses GPS location services for matches so this is not a farfetched next step.
