Online dating is sold to you as the easiest thing in the world. Is it, though?

Expectation:

Join the app. Create a profile. Get your matches sent to your inbox. Bam! More dates than you know what to do with.

Reality:

What usually happens is you swipe, scroll and click through hundreds of profiles every day. If you’re lucky, a few of them like you back. If you’re really lucky, a few of them are not fake profiles. If you are really, really lucky, you starting texting back and forth with that special someone and go out on a date a few weeks later.

Ah, romance in the modern world!

After a few months, this starts to feel like a chore. What was supposed to be an easy way to meet someone turns out to be quite a difficult, time-consuming and frustrating effort. If this is you, you might be suffering from a case of Singles’ Fatigue

What if there were a better way?

A friend and I were fed up with the way things were being done. We were busy single professionals, and we liked the basic idea of online dating. It was supposed to be fun, easy and natural. But somehow, dating profiles have taken over what is supposed to be the ultimate adventure of finding a soulmate.

We decided to take things into our own hands. Our primary goal was to emulate real-world dating and get people to meet each other as quickly as possible. We also wanted to get rid of dating profiles. We didn’t want a machine making decisions for you. And so we built Roundhop.

Meet 10 people in 1 hour for 5-minute conversations each. Face-to-face. Via video chat. Right from home. If you like someone you meet, give them a thumbs-up. If they “like” you back, we’ll send you both each other’s contact info to continue your journey. It’s that simple!

This is how a typical Roundhop event looks like:

#RealDating

You can tell someone more about yourself in 5 minutes than your dating profile ever could. You get a real sense of who the other person is. We want to bring back some of the charm and excitement of real-world romance — online.

All of our users are verified by what we call our “circle of trust”. Facebook, LinkedIn and phone verification give you a high score in our circle of trust. This makes sure that you talk to verified singles in your area. You can also report someone if they behave inappropriately — we will shut them down instantly and move you on to the next person.

Don’t have an hour to spend on an event? Then you’re a power user. Join our Power Events, lasting only 15 minutes where you can meet 5 people for 3-minute conversations each.

We are launching exclusively in New York City for now, and we will be expanding to more cities shortly. (We’re only two guys, and we can only do so much). Request an event in your city. If we get enough requests, we will launch in your city too. The first 10 events in NYC are completely free. We conduct both straight and same-sex events.

We’re also launching paid events. If you want to host an event, all you need to do is sign up as a host, create an event, and invite 20 people to join your event. Keep half the revenue made from the event. Paid events cost a minimum of $10, but you can choose to price your event higher depending on your location and clientele.
