She looked at the faded letter,
It was one addressed to her.
The paper was old and brown,
A piece fell to the dusty ground.

The letter was just a handwritten page,
It had turned brown with age.
The words were gradually fading away.

She still remembers like it was yesterday.
That letter was slid under her door,
She found it the next day on her floor.

It was from her teenage sweetheart,
To tell her that he was going away.
He would meet her on another day.
The days and season came and went.
No letter to her was ever sent.
Her sweetheart was never heard of again,
He disappeared on the fields of war.

The faded letter brought back his memory,
A cherished one she held so dear,
Life carried on with her, year after year.
She was married and a mother now.
Her life had changed over the years.
She lost and found love, joy, and tears.
