Jayram’s New Identity
To sponsor a child is to add a new member to the family.
To some, this would mean they’ve invited into their lives a new son or daughter, to some it is the addition of a new brother or sister, as for Jayram, he became the grandson of a family.
“Thank you so much for accepting me as your grandson. I am very happy with this. I thank God for this and I thank you also.” — Jayram, 12 years old
Jayram who lives in Love One More’s Bethel Home recently wrote this response, brimming with joy and gratitude, to his American sponsors, Kermit and Velda, after they asked his permission to refer to him as their “adopted grandchild from India.”
Jayram is not the only child sponsored by Kermit and Velda. This couple has been impacting the lives of a number of children through India Gospel League/ Love One More for the past eight years. Jayram was their latest addition when they decided to sponsor him in September 2014. Loving another is possible only when the love of God is at work within us. We at Love One More have witnessed the outpouring of God’s love through Kermit and Velda into the lives of their sponsored children.
Jayram now cherishes his new found identity as an adopted grandson and keeps the long distance relationship alive with his adoptive grandparents through letters and photos. He shares simple things, like his love of science and playing cricket with friends. Jayram also shares deeper concerns, like the recent loss of his father and his desire for his mother to come to faith in Jesus.
Their choice to sponsor children in India was born not only out of their heart of compassion for children in need but also as a result of their great desire to see Kingdom work being accomplished in India. We are blessed by their exemplary act of love in adopting this young seventh grader into their family through child sponsorship.
“In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” Ephesians 1:5–6
Adoption is one of the greatest privileges we have as followers of Jesus. Because of His death and resurrection, we now have the assurance that we are forever adopted into God’s family. We also realize that our adoption is only by His grace and not because of anything that we have done. Now, we know that we always have a loving and powerful Father whose eyes are always upon us.
The magnitude of loving one more child who is miles away is that by your love and generosity, the child not only gets to enjoy childhood and life, but he or she experiences the joy of knowing Jesus and thereafter, enjoy eternal life. We are thankful to all our child sponsors for making a difference in the lives of children in South Asia and ultimately making an eternal impact in God’s kingdom!
