Why Society is Fascinated by Breasts

Yes it’s not just men with a booby obsession

Boobs, jugs, melons, titties, fun-bags. I could go on, but the fact remains, society is mesmerised by breasts.

We see them plastered on advertising, TV and movies; low cut tops can be sexy, playful, attention-grabbing and sometimes risque; instagram is full of scantily-clad breasts but with a strict rule not to show any nipple.

Why are we so fascinated by these mounds of (mostly) fat that half the population possess? And why are some of those members even drawn by what they already have themselves?

Human Breasts are Permanently Enlarged

Human females are unique in that their breasts grow at puberty and stay enlarged for the rest of their lives. In all other mammals breasts only grow during ovulation and child-feeding. Once a mammal’s young no longer requires breast milk, their size decreases down to almost nothing again.

Humans are different. Breasts grow and then consist of approximately 80% fat, and stay that way for most of a female’s adult life. Perhaps they provide a handy fat store for energy, like camel humps (which is actually a credited theory).
