In this article, we will learn how to read an RSS feed and automate this process using KNIME Analytics Platform.

Before we dive into this, let’s remember what an RSS actually is:

RSS is a web feed that allows users and applications to access updates to websites in a standardized, computer-readable format. — Wikipedia

In our example, with the RSS feed of our blog, you will be able to see our blog posts with their link and creation date anytime you run the workflow. In this way, you will not miss a single piece of content!

First, we need the URL of the RSS feed. In our example, we can click the icon on the screenshot below and copy the URL that appears in the new tab:

https://bifiblogs.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

Next, we drag and drop for free the workflow “RSS Reader Workflow” from the KNIME Community Hub to KNIME Analytics Platform.

Download the workflow “RSS Reader Workflow” from the KNIME Community Hub.

After you open the workflow, it should look like in the image above. Now, if you want to use another RSS feed, you can paste that URL in the Table Creator node and execute the workflow.

We will continue with the RSS feed of our blog from the first step. All you have to do is execute the entire workflow, open the Table View node and click on the article URLs to enjoy the reading. Indeed, we embedded hyperlinks in article URLs.

You can see all the latest blogs and their links every time you run the workflow:
