In the current crisis, we are seeing more clearly than ever which companies put people first — and which don’t. Yesterday’s news offered some stark examples of placing profit above people. But this is one problem that every company can help solve.

It’s time for some positive corporate peer pressure. Every company has suppliers and service providers. Some of them continue to put workers in danger and unnecessarily demand that they report in person. Unbelievably, many think this is what their clients want. Let’s remove that excuse. Now is the time for companies to make it clear that to get our business, you need to put people first.

Today, we sent the note below to our suppliers and service providers. It’s a small step, but we could have a real impact on worker health if every company adopted and aggressively communicated these policies toward their own suppliers and service providers.

This will not solve the most difficult challenges of this crisis, but if many companies adopt a “people first to get our business” philosophy, the excuses go away, and more people can be safe. That would be one small corporate step in the right direction.

LTSE’s note to our partners:

To our suppliers and service providers:

We appreciate all that you do and have done to help our company. We know that most of you are already practicing social distancing. We have heard, however, that some companies are feeling pressured to unnecessarily put their employees at risk. We want to be explicit that we will always choose to work with partners who prioritize the health and safety of their employees, even if it impacts the level of service provided to us.

As a company, we strongly support social distancing, shelter in place, and other measures to promote public health. Adopting these approaches is the best way to protect the well-being of all of our community.

But we also know that these new imperatives create challenges to operations and preclude “business as usual”. We will support your choice to put people first with our continued business during the crisis and beyond.

Thank you,

P.S. Please consider copying this email and sending to your own suppliers and service providers.
