I felt that all the way through the film it was missing a psychological development of the character. But, at the same time, that’s the strongest force of the film.

The viewer is catapulted in the life of this guy whose emotional line is completely flat. However, he has his own personal way of emphasise and his moral views.

The only glimmer of characterisation is shown at the end, when the protagonist flips role with his brother, becoming the one with the paternal attributes, even if in minimal parts.

I quite liked how the sets were designed in order to show at the same time the incoming westernisation of Russia during the ‘90s and the hate displayed towards everything that wasn’t Russian.

Overall a very interesting film that I would’ve never found out if it wasn’t for The Cinematologists.
