How To Find Your Writing Voice And Master The Medium
It’s much better to write here when you know who you are rather than what you want to say.
If you’ve been writing here for a while and you’re looking to level up, the quickest way is by developing your voice. In a world where your words are your brand, you should be recognisable, distinctive, and consumer ready. You’re consuming this, does it feel worth it thus far?
Hopefully you’ll stick around.
There’s a lot of writing on this platform and there’s more people here now than there have ever been. The writing itself? Some of it is good bordering on great, some of it awful bordering on incomprehensible. There’s sadly, much to our collective chagrin, a lack of correlation between insight and writing ability.
Some great thinkers can’t write. Some great writers can’t think. Hopefully you’re able to find some stuff in the sweet spot.
And when you do, what you’re probably connecting with is ‘voice’.
It’s actually one of the reasons I love writing on Medium. I get to use a heightened version of my own voice. My other writing life is spent with scripts and screenplays.
If you’ve left your voice in those, you’re doing it wrong.
