The Person Behind The Penguin
It’s been a while since I wrote about myself — so here is a new shiny and updated version for 2024 and beyond.
I put up an article on the 10th of April 2021 about who I wasn’t. It’s now been three years and I feel you all need updating about who I’m not. It’ll be nearly six years since I started writing here in May 2018 and I feel an update every three years isn’t too self-indulgent.
So let me reiterate the point of the Argumentative Penguin.
I’m not really a penguin
It’s a question of identity. Primarily what constitutes my identity? Who gets to define my identity, what’s their agenda and why does it matter so much? Society is still determined we play identity politics, pushing and pulling in numerous directions around genetically inherited and socially acquired characteristics.
How you choose to identify matters now more than ever. How others choose to identify you is also more important now.
Although it has dropped in popularity society is still determined we run society primarily through the lens of identity politics. There have been significant movements from both the left and the right to centre identity rather than ideas as key to success in social discourse
