Why I’m Shifting My Writing (But Not To Anywhere Else)
In this lovely quiet period of expertise over opinion a Penguin must refocus their energies.
I’ve taken a few weeks off, more than a few weeks actually — as things in Chez Penguin have been getting frenetic. Much has happened since I was last here penning missives for collective delectation. In my life and in the wider political world — it pays to take a break from such things because the news cycle suggests this season of ‘Earth’ is being written by a team of neurodivergent toddlers.
The micro of my life mirrors the macro chaos quite well and in the last few weeks, I have been caught up in a myriad of exciting chaotic endeavours.
I’ve been appointed as a trustee on the board of a local theatre and have one of my plays opening in Romania. I’m taking my employer to task for fiscal mismanagement — sadly I appear to be the only one who seems to have read the ‘grievance policy’, so it’s rapidly turning into a farce.
There is no greater joy to a zero-fucks Penguin than slapping management around with their own handbook.
I’m also writing a Pantomime — because when you’re trying to mirror the chaos of reality, it pays to have a bunch of heroes, villains, paper-thin plotting and gender politics. To…
