Over the past decade, we have seen the gaming industry rapidly change with the introduction of new technologies that bring immersive experiences such as AI and VR. However, one of these emerging technologies, blockchain will be a crucial one in potentially transforming gaming from a recreational activity into an economic one, and will redefine the dynamics of the industry.

Distributed immutable ledger technology has proven to revolutionize gaming. Given that blockchain can identify who owns what, with great clarity, it is no wonder gamers are looking forward to blockchain-based online tournaments. With blockchain and the ability to stake ownership of assets, if a gamer has assets in one universe, they can leverage the asset to own other assets in other universes by simply cashing out of existing universes and upstarting in a new one.

The biggest blockchain-based hit is none other than CryptoKitties, where someone once paid USD 170,000 for a single CryptoKitty. While the craze has subsided, the game can be attributed to showcasing how easy it is to apply blockchain technology in gaming. As a recap, CryptoKitties is a collectible game that first makes the ERC721token (a virtual asset in a smart contract) uniquely guaranteed and can be permanently saved on the blockchain. Even though it was simplistic, with owners only having one picture of the virtual cat, the in-game transaction volume was in the millions.

With the explosion of CryptoKitties exemplifying how blockchain could be applied, some criticized it for not having enough innovation in terms of gameplay and it was too simplistic. This, coupled with the lack of security, curbed interest into the game and therefore, the investment into developing blockchain games.

At Ludos Protocol, we’re big believers in the application of blockchain in gaming. That’s why we’ve taken the time to develop a protocol which specifically addresses issues of yesterday’s blockchain gaming applications. We’re developing an ecosystem that addresses the issues of a centralized game platform. Our ecosystem will enable and enhance the financing of games, to ensure that games can develop properly and retain players. Gamers can also vote on important gameplay directions, to ensure they remain invested in gaming.

The ecosystem will be the heart and soul of the Ludos Protocol gaming environment, where we will create sidechains that help upstream and downstream development. After all, isn’t the environment one of the most important factor to help people realize their potential?

About Ludos Protocol

Ludos Protocol is a purpose-built blockchain infrastructure project for the gaming community. As only the third blockchain project to be backed by Japanese investment giant Softbank, Ludos addresses numerous shortcomings in the existing gaming landscape. Its main chain + multi-sidechain architecture allows games to run entirely on their own blockchain, preventing scalability issues that have plagued previous blockchain-based games. Additionally, the Protocol seeks to create a gamer-friendly ecosystem whereby game developers and gamers can come together to easily crowdfund and build on the platform. The use of non-fungible tokens (NFT’s) within the ecosystem will allow gamers to swap assets in one game for assets in another. Finally, through their partnership with FullPay Japan, Ludos will give gamers the chance to use LUD tokens that are earned in-game to shop and buy at a range of retail stores in Japan and later the world.
