Discussion focused on development trends in the gaming industry

Ludos Protocol was invited to participate at the exclusive Alibaba Japan Cloud Gaming Development Conference in Tokyo. The conference converged senior leadership from prominent Japanese gaming companies as well as experts from Alibaba’s gaming division. A large part of the agenda revolved around blockchain in the gaming industry.

Joe Meng, cofounder, represented Ludos Protocol at the conference and additionally held private discussions with the Chinese conglomerate’s senior leaders at the conference’s sidelines to discuss how new innovations will improve the gaming experience.

Onstage, Joe said, “Even as there is innovation coming to the fray weekly, we must always begin the application of new technology from how it will benefit the user experience.

“We’re big believers that gaming will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of blockchain and given how blockchain has already changed how we tokenize and trade in the gaming world, those who do not adopt it risk being upended.”

So far, commercial successes have not needed blockchain to become hits. Blockchain enthusiasts who see its potential have repeatedly called for future chapters of current gaming hits to be based on the blockchain.

Joe however, has a different opinion. “It’s crucial that we get the ecosystem correct. With the right ecosystem that works for both the business creating the game and the gamer, there will naturally be traffic that comes to the ecosystem. It’s rather tricky to get the balance right, that is, an ecosystem that benefits both the developer and gamer equally.

He added that if blockchain gaming doesn’t first solve the issue of a right ecology, it will then be difficult to garner faith in blockchain gaming, for both developers and gamers.

“We were previously focused on developing tools that attracted developers, but now, our interest is to create a blockchain-based killer app, which will be its tipping point to mass adoption.”

About Ludos Protocol

Ludos Protocol is a purpose-built blockchain infrastructure project for the gaming community. As only the third blockchain project to be backed by Japanese investment giant Softbank, Ludos addresses numerous shortcomings in the existing gaming landscape. Its main chain + multi-sidechain architecture allows games to run entirely on their own blockchain, preventing scalability issues that have plagued previous blockchain-based games. Additionally, the Protocol seeks to create a gamer-friendly ecosystem whereby game developers and gamers can come together to easily crowdfund and build on the platform. The use of non-fungible tokens (NFT’s) within the ecosystem will allow gamers to swap assets in one game for assets in another. Finally, through their partnership with FullPay Japan, Ludos will give gamers the chance to use LUD tokens that are earned in-game to shop and buy at a range of retail stores in Japan and later the world.
