From 20th April 2023 and onwards, users can now stake their APT tokens with Luganodes to earn APT token rewards. What is the Aptos Network?

Aptos is a layer 1 blockchain built with the Move programming language. It promises users increased scalability, reliability, security, and usability, with low transaction costs. The Aptos blockchain was launched on October 17, 2022, with the mainnet called “Aptos Autumn.” Since then, it has been gaining massive attention because of the star-studded founder team.

Aptos was founded by a former Meta’s (Facebook) Web3 project ‘Diem’ team headed by Mo Shaikh who now serves as Aptos’ CEO and Avery Ching who at present is its CTO. It uses the programming language originally created for Diem, with a focus on creating a scalable, fast blockchain and additional features that make the crypto more accessible to average users.

What is APT?

APT is the native cryptocurrency of the Aptos blockchain. It is used for transaction fees, staking, and participating in governance decisions. Moreover, it provides users with a rich set of on-chain properties, which are easily customised and defined by users, and can be stored on the blockchain allowing users to have full control over their tokens. In this way, it may be possible to eliminate the requirement for additional metadata to be stored off-chain in the future.

In addition to reducing resource use and overhead, the Aptos token standard also allows for tokens to reuse some of the on-chain metadata that is associated with certain fungible tokens, which results in cheaper resource costs when creating large amounts of NFTs.

It is the team’s goal to ensure that the APT token is interoperable between the various components of the Aptos ecosystem by using a standard implementation that enhances interoperability and compatibility.
