Bringing movement back to life.

Dear Self,

I forgot about movement.

The transition from being a full-time dancer to being an artist who moves as well as writes and draws and sings and tells stories has not been a straight forward one.

Dancing was pretty clear. When I was working I was in the studio 5 days a week moving. The other two days I was making sure I was healthy enough to keep doing that. When I wasn’t working I was trying to find ways to be in the studio as much as I could and doing a bit of making money however I could and feeling sad, often, that I wasn’t in the studio more.

As I have made this transition many good things have happened for me.

But I miss movement being my job.

Because it is so healthy to be in movement all the time.

It not as simple as just dancing around, though that is fun and awesome, exploring movement is like a meditation or a yoga practice for me.

I love getting lost in a movement question. When my curiosity is peaked and I discover something new about how my system works.

But, now that I am not a full-time dancer, I can forget about how important to my well-being it is to be inside these movement questions.

That’s why I trained as an Alexander Technique teacher. That’s where my interest and ongoing learning about Ideokinesis grows from.

I’m ready to bring movement questions back to life for myself. I think I want to teach a regular class about movement. I always find teaching is an excellent way to wake up the knowledge I have as well as challenging me to deepen and broaden that knowledge.

Yes. Something like that.

Luke.
