How much effort does this thing need?
Dear Self,
It is tempting when I am doing things that are less fun to do them in a less fun way.
I find myself ‘grinding’ my way through an activity purely because I resent doing the activity.
This happened to me yesterday afternoon as I was preparing for a workshop. I thought I had everything organised and it turned out that I didn’t, so I had a stressful hour getting things sorted.
I made everything in that hour harder than it needed to be because I was disappointed with how I had ended up in that situation.
Of course I had spent the morning talking to a friend about the idea of matching any given task with the amount of effort that task needs. Actually this was great because it meant I could see straight away what I was doing to myself and interrupt the pattern immediately.
I find my ability to understand an idea is not matched by my ability to implement it in every situation!
Luke
