I just want a day off.

Dear Self,

I just want a day off.

I don’t want to think anything of any great consequence.

I don’t want to reflect upon my foibles and misdemeanours.

I don’t want to bask in my own glory.

I don’t want to better understand myself.

I don’t want to make sense of the world.

I would just like a day of looking at the washing drying in the spring air on the line outside my kitchen window.

I’d like a day of having a cup of tea and…nothing else to do for the whole day.

So in light of all that I think I won’t write to you today.

Oh damn, did you trick me into that?

Luke
