Straight through the middle of the mess.

Dear Self,

There’s only one way to stop things being messy and that is to clean them up.

A pile of dishes, a basket full of clothes, a stack of papers…they are not going anywhere on their own. If I want them tidy then I have to tidy them.

When I am over tired I feel overwhelmed by all these piles, I can’t think straight. I tell myself I am too tired to deal with it. Sleep helps, but at some point I have to go through the middle of one of those piles and just clean it up.

It is the same with all of the things I have committed to do. Sometimes I can feel like all the projects are a big pile of mess and I don’t know where to start. I’m overwhelmed by it all.

The only thing is to start with one thing, just one piece of paper or email or phone call and finish that and then look at the next thing. Organising the pile so that things are in logical groups can help, maybe a list of some sort to prioritise things…

In the end it is still straight through the middle with one thing at a time that will do the trick.
