What is love?

Dear Self,

A friend of mine broke their heart open in front of me yesterday.

Oh how it aches to see such pure, unfiltered, beauty.

How can this be beautiful?

How can so much raw sadness and hurting be so beautiful?

It is beautiful because my friend shared with me the truth of what love means to them right now.

Being trusted with that is a privilege.

The beauty is in the power and potential that owning this truth brings with it. I saw them rally the troops right before my eyes.

They are ready now. They slew the next dragon on their quest. They have stood with their raw heart beating in their hand and they have held its beauty. Now they know what to do with it.

That is a stunning act to witness.

After our conversation I thought of my friend many times and felt quite emotional.

There is one thing that I keep saying over and over in my head that I want to share with them…

“You’ve got this.”

Because I know that someone who has the courage to let a friend hold their breaking heart with them can do anything.

Luke.
