Getting Started With LUKSO: A Guide to Entering the Ecosystem

Welcome to the future of the creator economy.

Chapter 1

This will be the first of a series of articles I’ll write about what LUKSO is, how to get into the ecosystem, and why it’s poised to be one of the next big things in the web3 space.

This is a great place to start if you’ve never heard of LUKSO or if you want to start with your first universal profile so you can begin exploring!

What is LUKSO?

LUKSO is a fresh, innovative layer-1 blockchain that’s amplifying the web3 experience by adding a social layer and some novel features designed to grow with the needs of the future internet.

Founded by Fabian Vogelsteller (ex lead DApp Developer for Ethereum) and Trained Architect / Brand Consultant Marjorie Hernandez, the platform aims to be a place where fashion, gaming, design, and social media intersect, enabling a bright future for a new creator economy.

With LUKSO, you’ll create a universal profile that serves both as your wallet and digital identity—a tool for both users and creators aiming to navigate the new Web3 landscape.

In this guide, we’ll cover:

1. How to create your universal profile.
2. Adding LYX tokens to your wallet.
3. Where to explore first on the LUKSO blockchain.
4. How to start engaging with the LUKSO community.

1. Sign Up

You can begin your journey by creating a profile at Universal Profile. The process is pretty straightforward, but there may be a few things you’ve never seen before. Especially if you’re new to web3:

1. Install the browser extension.

2. You’ll need to prove that you’re human by validating with X (Twitter).

Note — When you are creating your profile address, it’s mostly just semantics. It doesn’t matter which one you choose; the little image is just an extra feature to be confident that it’s your address and avoid scams/mistakes with future transactions.

3. Set up Account Recovery

Remarkably, LUKSO simplifies recovery options, allowing you to use your email or Google account instead of the traditional recovery seed, which enhances both security and convenience. This is just one reason the project is poised to succeed; they’re targeting different methods to simplify onboarding users into Web3.

If you’ve never used 2fa with an authenticator app before, needing to install another app can be annoying, but it’s easy and a great way to secure your internet accounts. I recommend Authy or Google Authenticator. Both are available for your phone. After creating an account with either app, just scan the QR code and it will provide you with the numbers to fill in here.

After clicking “Add Recovery” a pop-up will appear with some technical information. Initially, this may seem intimidating, but it’s just the wallet asking you to confirm adding the recovery to your profile.

Whenever you interact with the blockchain using your wallet, these pop-ups will appear asking you to sign and confirm the requested action. Just scroll to the bottom and long click to confirm, but make sure to read any relevant text to ensure you know what you’re doing! The bottom of the popup where you’ll sign looks like this:

4. Choose your username and set up your profile with images etc.

5. Then, follow the rest of the prompts to create your profile!

2. Fund Your Wallet

You have a few options for purchasing LYX tokens:

Centralized Exchanges:
Currently, LUKSO’s token (LYX) is available on:
- Crypto.com
- KuCoin
- MEXC
- CoinEx
- Bitget
- Gate.io.

They’re always working to get listed on more exchanges. If you’re like me and live in the US, Crypto.com is your best bet.

Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs):
If you’re migrating from the Ethereum ecosystem and already have a wallet, you have 2 options:

1. Purchase LYXe (Ethereum’s on chain LYX token) and swap for LYX using this link.
2. Purchase LYXw (wrapped LYX) and swap using SigmaSwap.

Depending on gas fees these options may or may not be more cost effective that purchasing on the exchanges.

Directly Through the Wallet:
LUKSO provides options to purchase tokens directly through the Universal Profiles Wallet with a credit card or Google account via Transak. Unfortunately, I’ve had some struggles with getting this service to work at the time of writing this article.

Once you’ve purchased LYX tokens, you can send them to the wallet address displayed on your Universal Profile (UP). You can find your wallet address by opening your browser extension and hovering (or clicking) on your profile preview. This will flip the card around to reveal your address.

3. Customize Your Universal Profile

Personalizing your Universal Profile is the next step. This can be done via a dedicated browser extension as shown above.

4. Enjoy the Ecosystem!
