This is the continuation of the article dealing with the first side of the album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which I am writing about because I am doing an extremely long series of articles evaluating the cultural relevance of The Beatles and trying to determine just how good they were and if anyone can have any reasonable claims that they were not so good or are not so important anymore.

The whole project was prompted by reading some negative comments regarding the Beatles in a Hacker News Thread and some other negative comments regarding the Beatles in a Metafilter thread discussing the Vulture ranking of everyone in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — which led me to wonder why almost all critical evaluations of The Beatles just state their great or maybe even the greatest and then ask you to shut up and accept it without any support for the claim.

So these articles exist as a way of gathering support, or if need be determining that there isn’t any support.

Because these articles tend to be longer than is popular on the internet we are trying something new here, where we will deal with a number of songs on the album in their own separate articles, and link to them all here, so that nobody gets freaked out when they see an estimated reading time of 19 minutes or greater.

Let’s Go!

Side One

apologies, somehow I messed up song order in editing these articles together. Should be fixed in a few minutes.
