Best Online Courses to Become a Blockchain Pro

Mohit Mamoria Michele D'Aliessi Udemy Coursera Blockgeeks edX Team

We won’t start trying to convince you how important it is to educate yourself constantly. We also don’t want to throw promises of a six-figure annual income for skilled developers, as you’ve probably heard it all. It is common knowledge that professionals are always in demand, and with a certain amount of discipline, focus, and motivation you can also become a specialist everyone looks for, even if you’ve only been a little curious about the industry until now. Of course, you have to start with something and online courses are the best way to explore the subject, get comfortable with it, and decide if you’re ready to devote yourself to it.

It’s 2019 and education has also gone digital so there’s definitely no lack of platforms that offer blockchain certification and training on the web. They might not make you the next Vitalik Buterin in two months but some of them are capable of giving you a great start whether you want to focus on the tech or business side of it. However, the rest depends solely on you.

First of all, if you have no clue about blockchain whatsoever, you might wanna start with something more casual rather than committing yourself to several weeks (or months) of learning. Check out this great Medium piece by Mohit Mamoria, read about the blockchain basics in the ‘simple words’ of Michele D’Aliessi, or sign up for a free bitcoin crash course by 99 bitcoins. And if you prefer ‘longreads’, there is an insightful book by Don Tapscott called ‘Blockchain revolution’, a real page turner for aspiring crypto enthusiasts.

Blockchain and Bitcoin Fundamentals on Udemy

For curious beginners who are not sure what they want

This course is not going to teach you how to code, but it will definitely help build a solid base. By enrolling in the course, you will be able to figure out what blockchain is and how bitcoin works. The very basics of the technology, important terms and concepts, smart contracts and Bitcoin Cash — everything you need to know in order to start feeling confident in the subject. Basically, this course systemizes all the must-know information on blockchain and crypto and saves you time you would spend on browsing through multiple resources on your own. 37 lectures in less than 3 hours and you will finally understand it all.

Learn How to Build Your First Blockchain on Udemy

For anyone, however, to take and complete the practical part of the course, basic Python knowledge required

Another course by Udemy worth mentioning is going to teach you how to create a blockchain. This is not going to be an easy journey, you’ll have to dedicate a lot of time and effort. During these studies, you will find out about the theory behind blockchain, cryptocurrency and smart contracts and eventually will learn how to create them by yourself. So if you’re dreaming of gifting the world a new revolutionary coin or a rocking dapp, but you’re not sure how to do it, then go ahead and sign up for this course. The coding part is difficult and you’re going to need a lot more than 14,5 hours of on-demand video. However, the harder you work, the bigger the prize you’ll get.

Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies by Princeton University on Coursera

For beginners who are also Bitcoin believers

Another basic blockchain course but with a focus on Bitcoin. You are going to start with an introduction to all the cryptocurrencies but later on go deeper into bitcoin. You will learn Bitcoin’s consensus mechanism and the beauty of its security. Also, you will get deeper knowledge of the individual components of Bitcoins such as transactions, script, blocks, and the peer-to-peer network. And finally, students will explore exactly how BTC works in practice. The best thing about this course is that it’s absolutely free.

Ethereum Course by Blockgeeks

For Ethereum fans with survival-level Linux skills

If you already know that Ethereum is your blockchain to be, but you’re not quite sure where to start, then we recommend you take the Ethereum course by Blockgeeks. As the creators of the course say it themselves:

“We bring you up to speed on Solidity, before we explore the intricacies of building decentralized applications.”

It comes in two parts and it’s going to teach you the basics of designing, constructing and managing enduring systems of smart contracts. After finishing the course you’ll be able to spot the common mistakes of Solidity developers, errors, and security issues right away and distinguish the patterns to look for. Prepare yourself for a long battle!

Blockchain for Business by the Linux Foundation on edX

For business professionals who want to understand how can they use the blockchain to improve their performance

Finally, if you’re more interested in the business side of things, have a look at this course by Linux. It comes in two parts and covers a variety of topics, including blockchain’s impact on the world and the changes it promises, and real and possible use cases. The course is designed to give a basic understanding of the technology and uses Hyperledger projects as major examples. Ideally, after finishing the course you will have at least a couple of ideas of how to implement blockchain processes into your own business.

Conclusion

There are a lot of blockchain courses online and they fit almost anyone, from curious newbies to advanced developers and business owners. We’ve offered you a few basic ones, but it’s totally up to you to browse through these platforms and find the one that fits you best.

Enrolling in an online course and paying a reasonably small tuition fee could be a great way for some people to stay motivated and organize (also systemize) their knowledge.
