LOCK AND KEY — Kasey Thompson
I am a woman,
and a sexual being but -
There’s ambiguity
as to why promiscuity
for me
Is casualty or criminality
But his is likability
or triviality.
You may not follow
but I question why
My sexuality
must be gyrated
but his sexual consequences
are celebrated.
I reject analogy
that mine’s a lock
and his a key
because looking scientifically
we know enough to know
that’s all shit.
I know it’s controversial to some
but stay with me -
We know that hormones
can make us frisky
So why is it socially risky
to act on them like you do?
Some sexual acts
he can approach carefree
but I guarantee
she’d be society’s deportee.
And don’t rely on tradition -
because I have my suspicion
it adds little definition
to your life
other than promoting
woman’s sexual inhibition.
This is a poetic petition.
Now I’m not spilling tea,
I’m just saying -
that your brain
must be an absentee
if you can’t grasp the reality
that women have needs too.
And if she’s a slut then so are you.
