Lunch out with Sprout

SPROUT — Paprika Chicken Wrap — 2/5

Let me start by saying, Sprout and I have a speckled history. To begin with, I was simply astounded by their prices. This was, I hasten to add, while I was still adjusting to the fact that everything in Dublin costs about 4x more than anywhere else.

10 Euros on a single salad seems a bit outrageous for a takeaway lunch. Nonetheless, I was met with an uproar of Sprout-lovers who assured me they were the business. And, sure enough, the salads I have had from there have been pretty delicious and, incredibly, not a total rip off. They are huge, too huge even, and fresh and flavourful. All solid ticks - though I still wouldn’t get one regularly (although they are not a total rip off, they are sinfully expensive for anywhere outside of Dublin).

In the spirit of this little luncheon blog, I wanted to try something new today. There’s been a lot of chat about the Sprout falafel wrap, and there’s frequently Web Summit chat about how to best eat it — to heat it in the George Foreman grill or not? It often defeats people in its size, and more often than not is met with moans of ecstasy. But, see, I’m the worst falafel snob out. I’m afraid to commit to that wrap because, frankly, if that falafel were even remotely dry, I’d kick off.

So, I decided, foolishly, to go off piste. Lads, hit me up with a Paprika Chica Wrap. Manor Farm chicken, sweet potato, spring onion, red chilli and paprika yogurt dressing. Sounds like a simple but well balanced array of flavours.

Simple is one word. Tiny is another.

Can you guys see how wee that is? Now, again, I know I sound like a piglet (and often am) but as it happens, I don’t like gorbing myself senseless at lunch. That withstanding, I also don’t want to be hungry again in a few hours. For €7.95, this spartanly packed wrap was a bit of a disappointment. The flavours were good, but it simply was too small.

My advice is that if you want a wrap from Sprout, get your Turkish vibe on and order the falafel. I’ve not even had it and I know it’s better than this chica failure.

LUNCH IN THE GARDEN

You’ll be happy to hear though, lunch was not a total bust. We ventured outside to enjoy the hot hot heat of an Irish summer (19oC today, jaysis).

If getting a wee breeze around the oxters wasn’t good enough, I also got to play with Archie, one of the office dogs. He is CA-YUTE and as we all know, any dog time, is good time.

Lunch With Cat

Lunch is no “midday break”. Lunch is business time.
