The reality of wind energy
The utilization of wind as a resource is as old as civilization itself. Greek scientific understanding of the behavior of winds and fluids allowed other neighboring societies to develop designs such as the Persians did in the 900s A.D. The first designs were geared towards the utilization of the wind’s kinetic energy for grinding and other mechanical work. It was not until the 19th century that the first designs for power generation were developed. Since those days Wind Energy has been a prevailing idea that gained strength in the 20th century and is gaining interest today.
Wind is considered a renewable resource, and one that is free and without environmental impact (no water or air pollution), which represents some of the greatest benefits of this type of power source. In fact, as CleanTechnica’s forum states, Wind Energy has become the cheapest form of electricity in places where the resource is vast and the policy exists. As stated here as well, if the resources were utilized in land and/or near land locations the world could be powered up 6 to 15 times over. Utilizing all this wind energy would also help reduce our world’s dependency on fossil fuels, which has triggered many conflicts through history. And last but not least, we should also consider wind’s scalability as an important factor in the development of the energy resource. Other renewable resources pose similar advantages to the…
