Metro has created a new bus service plan that will be designed to fit the needs of Metro bus commuters. A meeting was held at St. Louis Community College — Florissant Valley to invite the public to learn more about the new North County transit center and Metro bus service plan. Metro’s goal is to make their routes more accessible and less time consuming for commuters.

“I think it’s a good idea because it can help students get to college a lot faster. It can help people go to places that they have trouble finding more. It might be hard for some people knowing the new buses now but it’s a good idea for people to go to more places now,” said local citizen Glen Avery.

The new bus transit center will feature concessions, public restrooms, a waiting area, and free parking. With North County being one of the fastest growing public transit markets, Metro wants to improve its service with providing more connections to other destinations, better transfers, and more frequent service. Lance Peterson, Metro’s Director of Service Planning, says that the new plan will be beneficial for commuters.

“What we have done with the routing in North County is that we’re taken the majority of the routes and we have just eliminated them and the majority of the time we made those shorter routes,” said Peterson.

One of the major changes proposed is more Sunday bus service that will improve the way passengers get to work.

“One of the things is that people get jobs and they take public transportation but when you have poor Sunday service they can’t depend on getting that job on a Sunday and be able to get home. if we put that additional service in there you’ll attract more customers that will take public transportation,” replied Peterson.

The New North County Bus Center is expected to open in March of 2016.
