Over five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease today. Saturday the St. Louis community came together to raise funds and to show their support to end this disease.

Nearly five thousand people participated Saturday morning in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Missouri has the ninth highest death rate of Alzheimer’s disease in America, touching many lives of residents throughout the state. Washington University doctors play a major roll in research and the potential of finding a cure for the horrible disease. Most of the money raised through the event will stay local and support the research performed by Washington University.

Various people from grandkids, to parents, and even caregivers for loved ones fighting against Alzheimer’s came together with one common interest, to unity in finding a cure.

President of the Alzheimer’s Association Stacey Tew-Lovasz explained that: “The walk to end Alzheimer’s disease is out biggest platform for raising awareness and raising necessary funds for care, support, and research to end this disease.”

With the potential of a cure being found at home, this event is gaining more and more walkers each year. Everyone who came out for this event was walking with a team, for a family member, or for a friend, but most importantly to support the St. Louis chapter of the Alzheimer’s association.
