The Sia network will hardfork to reject all ASICs on the network except for Obelisk miners. This means that if you own a Bitmain A3 or Innosilicon S11 you won’t be able to mine the Sia chain backed by the Nebulous Team. However, you will be able to mine other cryptocurrencies like Hyperspace.

You can read Sia Lead Dev David Vorick’s article for an in-depth explanation on the reasons why they are taking this drastic decision.

Exchange Support

Most exchanges have confirmed that they will support the fork. Some of the higher volumes exchanges that will support the fork include: Binance, Bittrex, Poloniex, Upbit, HitBTC and more.

Obelisk Miners

If you’re an Obelisk miner you’ll need to update your firmware in order to be ready for the upcoming fork. Obelisk will release a firmware update that complies with the new mining algorithm introduced in Sia v1.3.7.

You can follow this guide to update your ASIC firmware to v1.2.0.The new firmware will enable you to not only mine the Sia backed chain but also every other Blake2B fork.

Holders, storage providers and users

Just be sure that you’re running v1.3.7 by October 31st. By doing so you’ll have access to the forked chain as soon as the fork happens therefore your coins will be accessible on the new chain.

Hosts must update if they want to continue forming contracts with users on the new chain. Upgrading will ensure that you will continue to be able to host and/or upload data to the network.

The fork will be implemented on October 31st at a block height of 179,000. Be updated by this date.

Happy Hashing!
