Connecting Europe and Malaysia through BETAPITCH Global 2018

Rene Bernard (CEO & Co-Founder of LuxTag)

Despite the 10K kilometers that divide Germany and Malaysia, 3 innovative organizations came up with a plan to connect these two beautiful countries. After meeting at an event in Malaysia, Betahaus (coworking space based in Berlin, Germany), MaGIC (global innovation and creativity center based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia) and MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia) they decided to host their own event with the intent to foster Malaysia’s and Germany’s cooperation. That’s how the pitch event “BETAPITCH Global 2018”, that took place at coworking space WORQ TTDI in Kuala Lumpur, was born.

On the 7th of November, 10 Malaysian startups came to WORQ TTDI to compete and win a grand prize — a fully paid trip to Germany and free access to use a coworking space for one month. Startups were evaluated by five competent judges Norhizam Bin Abdul Kadir (VP, MDEC), Iva Jankovic (COO, BetahausX), Bikesh Lakhmichand (CEO, 1337 Ventures), Johnathan Lee (Executive Director, MaGIC), and Dato’ Arulchelvam (Advisor and Investor, Visual EFX). Companies were judged according to five criteria: technology, team, business model, scalability, and presentation skills.

LuxTag’s CEO and Co-Founder Rene Bernard couldn’t miss this opportunity and participated in the pitch. LuxTag got very close to winning, but only reached second place. However, Rene was satisfied and happy for the winner company CapitalBay as this opportunity can gain much more value for a startup whose CEO doesn’t have German roots like Rene does. All in all, LuxTag was delighted to participate in the Betapitch KL event and be a part in connecting Europe and Malaysia.
