A couple of weeks ago we shared the first part of what is a list of must see places and landmarks in Tenerife, according to our (not so) humble opinion.

It’s time to finish off that list with the inevitable part two!

The most common feedback that we got about the first part of our list was that it didn’t include that many “off the beaten track” places last time so we decided to correct this injustice and suggest you three such places this time around!

Let’s start – where else – at the beginning!

1. PYRAMIDS OF GUIMAR

Part of the 65,000 square feet ethnological park, the Pyramids of Guimar actually date back to mid 19th century AD (not BC). Even though they are not super ancient, they still provide a fascinating glimpse into that era as they were used for agricultural practices of those times.

Originally nine pyramids were erected of volcanic stone, using no mortar, although today only six of them remain. The attraction in fact holds a treasure trove of exhibitions and musems, such as Casa Chacona Museum and the endemic Canarian gardens.

2. LORO PARQUE

Legitimately considered one of the top attractions in Tenerife, Loro Parque is a 13,5 hectare animal park with a mesmerizing collection of avian and aquatic species. It’s so popular that so far more than 40 million visitors passed through its gates.

Opened in 1972, it first housed an then-impressive collection of 150 parrots, while today it boasts 4000 parrots, dolphins, sharks, and the crowd-favourite, orcas. In addition you can find apes, iguanas, jaguars and even sloths. Truly a memorable place for the whole family to visit while in Tenerife.

3. PLAYA DE BENIJO

Forget Las Teresitas beach (beautiful as it is) and pack your things for a bumpy ride to a beach even more breathtaking! You will need a car to reach it but Playa de Benijo, located on the very north east tip of the island, is worth it.

The definition of a secluded beach, Benijo will entrance you with its pristine, almost virgin feel, black sand and tumultuous waves. A surfer’s paradise, it’s also a place to really let go and become in synch with the nature. As the road to Benijo is rocky, you might be best leaving kids with someone else for the trip’s duration.

4. CUEVA DEL VIENTO

Cueva del Viento is a lava tunnel but not just any lava tunnel. It’s THE longest lava tunnel in Europe. Its 17 km of explored tunnel space provide an awe-inspiring trip, literally into the bowels of the islands.

The tour takes about two hours and teaches you all the intricacies of this place. This is where a cockroach without eyes was discovered! You don’t want to make a grave mistake of not booking in advance so don’t forget to do it.

5. ROQUES DE ANAGA

Another natural wonder of the island, Roques de Anaga are one of the enduring symbols of Tenerife. Basically, these are two enormous rocky islands off the north-east coast of Tenerife. As an ecologically protected area, they are known for its rich flora and fauna.

Due to its special status, visits to these protruding giants are prohibited, but, you can enjoy the view of them from the coast. As the matter of fact, the Benijo beach is not that far away from Roques de Anaga, meaning you can combine the two trips into one!

Which ones of these places have you already visited and which ones will make the top of your list when you visit Tenerife? What are the best things to see in Tenerife for you?
