Location: City Hall, Room 400

What meeting did you attend (name of the body, whether it was a regular or special meeting, etc)?

San Francisco Police Commission, regular.

Agenda.

Minutes.

Supporting documents.

Did you attend the whole meeting?

No.

Tell us about public input: Did it happen? How was it conducted? Did it seem adequate?

Agenda item 3 “Reports to the Commission” had public comment (Chief’s Report, DPA Director’s Report, Commission Reports) and the 5th item on the agenda was “General Public Comment” — the chair responded to all comments directly at the time which seemed an effort to be responsive, but could have been a bit heavy handed (since other commissioners generally didn’t speak)

Tell us about the government: Who was there? Were they attentive? Were they prepared? Were they courteous with each other and the public?

There are several open positions on the commission, so the body was much smaller than in past meetings. Everyone seemed courteous to each other and the public and well prepared. The Chief was out of town, so the Assistant Chief spoke instead.

Want to tell us anything else (about the process used, the content of the meeting, decisions made, adherence to laws and regulations, etc)?

Public comment was limited to two minutes per person because of a busy agenda. It concerns me that other meetings at City Hall don’t instruct people to turn off their cell phones because they interfere with the broadcast (they simply ask people to silence ringers, so that they aren’t disruptive). I question whether this instruction from the chair is out of date. I question whether the pledge of allegiance is appropriate (and have not seen it done in other SF meetings).
