Observer name(s): Julia Fasick

Location: Park Police Station

What meeting did you attend (name of the body, whether it was a regular or special meeting, etc)?

Park District, Regularly Scheduled Community Meeting

Did you attend the whole meeting?

Yes.

Tell us about public input: Did it happen? How was it conducted? Did it seem adequate?

The meeting was run by Captain Bailey who did ensure that everyone had an opportunity to speak and provide input.

Tell us about the government: Who was there? Were they attentive? Were they prepared? Were they courteous with each other and the public?

Captain Bailey and several of her officers were in attendance. The agenda and supporting materials were both presented as slides and available as hard copy.

A representative from the DA’s office was also in attendance as a guest speaker.

The Department of Police Accountability also had a representative.

Want to tell us anything else (about the process used, the content of the meeting, decisions made, adherence to laws and regulations, etc)?

Captain Bailey reviewed the previous month’s crime statistics.

The officer of the month was introduced and discussed a recent arrest of a repeat offender. The public was encouraged to report incidents as larger numbers of reports allowed the police to more easily identify repeat offenders. There was a discussion about how reporting seemed to be harder then it should be, with a specific example, and Officer Bailey took the input and said she would look into it.

Two community members came with specific concerns about activity near their house and there was a discussion about how and when to get the police involved.

The representative from the DA’s office spoke about a proposal to make conservatorship easier to establish with the goal of helping people who were unable to handle their own financial or medical affairs.

The representative from the Department of Police Accountability (https://sfgov.org/dpa) again described the departments role of investigating complaints against the police.

The meeting started and ended on time and everyone was given an opportunity to speak.
