What meeting did you attend (name of the body, whether it was a regular or special meeting, etc)?

Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee — special meeting

Watched via SFGovTV.

Agenda

Did you attend the whole meeting?

Yes

Tell us about public input: Did it happen? How was it conducted? Did it seem adequate?

Yes, public comment happened. Public comment was limited to 2 minutes.

Caller 1: No brainer low cost solution. This is a small step. Not a big step. Concern what happens when we do a big hard steps that are not no brainers and controversial?

Caller 2: Calling for police abolition. And resolution is long overdue. Should include grandfather clause for existing officers with history of misconduct. Resolution good, but not good enough. Cut off at 2 minutes.

Tell us about the government: Who was there? Were they attentive? Were they prepared? Were they courteous with each other and the public?

Public Safety Committee members present: Walton, Stefani. Supervisor Mandelman absent, but sent memo to move resolution forward to BoS.
Supervisor Safai present as well. Public Safety Clerk: John Carroll. District Attorney Boudin.

Since there was only one agenda item and it was being sponsored by Walton, Walton and Boudin did most of the talking during the meeting to speak on the importance of the resolution especially in light of the murder of George Floyd and that it’s also Juneteenth.

Want to tell us anything else: about the process used, the content of the meeting, decisions made, adherence to laws and regulations, etc?

Walton mentioned how gladiator fights were instigated in SF jails by law enforcement as one of the many gross examples of SF law enforcement misconduct.

Boudin called this resolution the George Floyd resolution.

The resolution is to combat loophole with police misconduct investigations where officers under investigation can resign and go work elsewhere.

Why this resolution exists? CA law makes it difficult to gain access of info about law enforcement personnel.

Resolution Sponsors: Walton; Yee, Preston, Peskin, Fewer, Ronen, Haney and Mar, and Safai, and Stefani adds herself as co-sponsor as well. (Majority met to pass for BoS vote)

Motion to bring Resolution to BoS passed with 3 ayes.
