Subscribers of great podcasts,

We’re excited to officially launch Brave New Data: The Data Economics Podcast. In each episode, host Rob Maigret (AKA me) sits down with a different guest in Lydion’s Downtown LA offices to dig deeper into the field of Data Economics and uncover how it relates to their specific industry and area(s) of interest.

What’s data economics? Great question, and that’s what we aim to find out by speaking with individuals across a myriad of industries who deal in data each and every day.

We all know that data — our data — is valuable, and some even say combined it’s worth more than oil. In this podcast, we examine the ways in which the inherent value of data is rapidly changing, and changing the world.

But there are still lots of unknowns. With so many issues surrounding data — privacy, access, scarcity, verification — Brave New Data will have many opportunities to uncover new ideas and challenge the status quo of current practices and how we view data in general.

Who is Brave New Data for?

We break down data in a way that everyone can follow, from technologists and economists to those just dipping their toes in. If you’re in tech, finance, healthcare, energy, entertainment, retail — basically any industry — you already understand data’s potential. This podcast will help you look at the value of data from entirely new perspectives. With experts, we’ll discuss what the data revolution means for everyone, from individuals to companies, to a national level and beyond.

Based in DTLA, we feel strongly about cultivating community. In future, we plan to do some live tapings with local datapreneurs, developers, startup types, and corporate ambassadors. So if you’re in LA, reach out and join the conversation!

About the Episodes

Our first episodes approach data economics from a few different angles. In Episode One, we talk to Markie Bryant and Sam Plumptre about how their venture, The Ivy Project, will help cryptocurrency owners invest in companies in non-traditional ways.

In our second episode, we speak with one of my partners Arka Ray from Lydion Research about what data economics really is, and how it can impact everything from a company’s valuation, to your very own wallet. For those looking to better understand the future of data economies, Arka paints a clear, nuanced picture of why we’re all on this journey together.
