Lykke joins the list of crypto exchanges where to buy NEO
As of February 7, Lykke Exchange will enable deposits, withdrawals and trading of the NEO cryptocurrency in pairs with BTC and USD. NEO is one of the top 25 cryptocurrencies according to the market capitalization data and it is highly requested by our community.
On the eve of the second NEO devcon in Seattle in February, Lykke added NEO to the list of assets available on Lykke Exchange. While the conference will certainly produce interesting updates and valuable information about the NEO’s progress, in this post we will only briefly outline the main characteristics of the project.
NEO token profile — why NEO in brief.
As stated on its website, “NEO is a non-profit community-driven blockchain project. It utilizes blockchain technology and digital identity to digitize assets and automate the management of digital assets using smart contracts. Using a distributed network, it aims to create a “Smart Economy”.
While at first glance such a description may suit more than one blockchain projects, NEO certainly has a number of characteristics that differentiate it from the competitors.
Technically, NEO stands out for the mere fact that it developed and actually applied the dBFT consensus algorithm. This type of consensus allows to overcome the Byzantine Generals Problem. At the time of editing, NEO appears to be the only crypto project that has developed a functional blockchain with this consensus principle, even if it’s still work in progress.
However, the major differentiator is its statement of purpose: NEO is building a blockchain for real life aiming to transform our everyday transactions and financial operations into a Smart Economy.
This formula translates into the following:
Digital assets — a possibility to assign a digital representation to any kind of an asset.
Digital identity — only persons and entities that have a verified digital identity on the NEO blockchain can perform transactions. This is an important and somewhat controversial characteristic. While the crypto movement was from the very beginning prioritizing anonymity, NEO’s anti-utopian view on regulation foresees that eventually, all governments will apply blockchain and hence regulation will become an inherent part of the future smart economy with digital identity as its cornerstone.
Smart Contracts — NEO is not the only blockchain designed to run smart contracts on it. However, the priority of the NEO team is to optimize it for large business purposes: create data storage solutions, facilitate developer work by creating powerful API’s allowing to connect applications written in most popular languages, etc.
While NEO has two tokens, NEO and GAS operating on its blockchain, Lykke is only listing NEO at the moment.
