A True Romantic of Cricket — Daren Sammy Joins The Lympo Family!

We’re happy to announce the newest addition to the Lympo Athlete Pool — Daren Sammy.
Daren is a sharp-minded and disciplined yet passionate athlete. His achievements will be celebrated by a collection of Lympo NFT sports collectible cards.
In his 38 years, Daren has managed to accomplish so much that even the longest of lists can’t hold all of his achievements. He takes pride in being the first St Lucian cricket player to go international and the only captain to win World T20 twice.
Daren was the first captain to win West Indies a major trophy in 8 years.
Daren Sammy made his career debut in 2001 at the age of 17 playing for the Northern Windward Islands in the domestic one-day cricket competition named Red Stripe Bowl. During the match, he bowled nine overs without taking a wicket and scored 25 runs.

He became a member of the West Indies team for the 2002 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. His performance was so admirable that afterward, Sammy was invited to attend the Shell Cricket Academy at St. George’s University.
The Academy only considers the brightest cricketing prospects and helps them to grow professionally.
During the 2003 season, Daren Sammy was sought after by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Young Cricketers. His praiseworthy playing tactics and unshakable control served him well as he was the Windward Islands’ second-highest wicket-taker in the Regional Four Day Competition.
In 2004, Daren was invited to the West Indian senior team. At only 20 years old, he became the first St Lucian international cricketer — a turning point in Sammy’s career.
After, his international career has truly taken off. In 2008, Sammy was approached by the Stanford Superstars, a team gathered by an American billionaire — Allen Stanford.
With Daren Sammy in its lineup, they reached the series finale.

Sammy was the captain of the West Indies Test team across all formats for the tours of Bangladesh and India. 2011 marked a major improvement in Sammy’s career — scoring over 100 runs, registering his first Test century.
This newfound confidence and boosted leadership skills, helped Sammy’s team secure a World Twenty20 win in 2012, with the second win in 2016.
Following this, Beauséjour Cricket Ground, a stadium located on his home island, was renamed the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
Although considered a composed and quick-witted athlete, Sammy doesn’t shy away from emotions. Coming from a religious upbringing, he is a person of heart. Cricket is his first love so every match and every accomplishment he truly cherishes. Sammy tends to lead with passion and “bowl his heart out”.

He believes that when you achieve success — you need to give something back into the universe. His actions showcase that — striving for a better West Indies cricket future and showcasing his island every opportunity he gets.
Now Daren Sammy is entering a new chapter of his life. After retiring from playing, he is looking forward to new possibilities in cricket — coaching and nurturing future cricketing prospects.
His heart and passion for cricket is the reason we want to celebrate his legacy by releasing his custom Lympo NFTs.
