Darya was born in 1991 in Tver, Russian SFSR. At the age of eight, she began playing volleyball, and at thirteen changed her preference for athletics in specialty long jump, thanks to the influence of her father, a former athlete.

Fast and sharp, Darya had every chance of succeeding as a volleyball player had she not been spotted, aged 12, at a regional track and field championship and brought to Moscow. From then on Darya, a small girl alone in a big and strange city, worked the ‘mine field’ .

A dramatic turn came in 2013, when Darya decided to go to the US for a new training set-up. Here her climb to stardom started, assisted by her super coach Loren and her fantastic team.

And the rest is history…
